V21: Into the Northwest

In summer of 2023, we set off to explore the American Northwest, and Canada’s Vancouver Island in our Winnebago Revel adventure van. Detailed GPS data is available to Patreon subscribers, and paid members of venture4wd.com.

V20: Revel Adventure to the Landy

It’s early 2023, and in our 2021 Winnebago Revel, I set off on an adventure from southern Arizona, up into Utah, to retrieve my 1991 Land Rover Defender Hi-Cap, which I abandoned at a friend’s house in April of 2022. Almost a year later! The round-trip takes four weeks, and I seek out adventure along the way, in Arizona, Nevada, and Utah.

V19: Reimagining Adventure

This chapter of venture4wd kicks off with two informational videos about GPX files and camera equipment, followed by adventures in the mountains of southwest Colorado, Moab, Utah, and the desert outside of Phoenix, Arizona. It concludes with a two-part wrap-up compilation of 2022 highlights. After a year of personal challenges and loss, behind the scenes during this series, I quietly contemplate the adventure to come.

V18: Revisiting Quebec and Ontario

This is a three-part series where I venture solo in my orange Jeep, into Quebec from Maine, and I travel as far north as the Route du Nord in Chibougamau, and then I turn west, and travel into Ontario, where I explore deeply into the Canadian backcountry, and then turn south to experience Lake Superior, and re-enter the United States in Michigan.

V17: Orange Jeep and a Broken Foot

In mid-summer, 2022, Shannon and I leave my dad’s driveway in Pennsylvania, and venture north, into Vermont, to commence a new adventure in both our Winnebago Revel and the Jeep. On our first day in the Green Mountain State, I break my foot during a hike, and Shannon shuttles me off to the hospital for x-rays. The next few weeks are spent eating ice cream, recalling past adventures, and exploring Vermont’s stunning backroads in an orthopedic boot.

V16: In The Wake of Loss

After traveling full-time for over five years, and creating videos each week to share our experiences, life doesn’t stop. It’s not an endless, romanticized adventure that makes one exempt from love, illness, and loss. Prior to this series, I lost my mom to cancer which prompted Shannon and I to stop what we were doing abruptly in Utah, in V15, and travel east to Pennsylvania to be with my family during a difficult time. This series commences in Pennsylvania, where we pick-up the pieces, whip the Jeep back into shape, and reconnect with good friends.

V15: The Land Rover Adventure

While the Jeep is undergoing repairs, and its scheduled return date uncertain, in the meantime, I purchased a knackered, 1991 Land Rover Defender 110 High-Capacity pick-up truck. It has a 200 Tdi, it’s right-hand drive, and it has 200,000 miles on the odometer. In this series, I spend a few weeks in Tucson, Arizona, preparing the truck for adventure, and then Shannon and I make our way north, to meet our friends at Lifestyle Overland in Utah. While the Land Rover is a fun and interesting four-wheel drive vehicle, it is only to serve as a temporary driver while the Jeep is in the shop. It was sourced at Sonoran Rovers in Tucson.

V14: Trouble at 193,000 Miles

This series starts off normal enough, first in Arizona, in anticipation of Overland Expo West, and then Shannon and I continue north to the Grand Canyon, the Sawtooth Mountains, Oregon’s backcountry, and finally into Washington where 193,000 miles of adventure takes its toll on the Jeep. First, the starter fails, followed immediately by an engine issue. As we navigate mechanical woes in the Pacific Northwest, Shannon and I move into the van together, and abandon Orangie in Oregon to get a new engine for the remainder of 2021. We make the best of the situation and continue south toward warmer and drier climates, where we reflect upon another year of adventure!

V13: OK4WD’s RAM with an Overland Explorer Camp-HBE

This special, two part series covers my adventure in OK4WD’s 2020 Ram 3500 equipped with an Overland Explorer Camp-HBE tray bed camper. In this series, I take an unfamiliar full-size truck with a well-equipped camper high into Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. I share my experience and insight with the vehicle, in addition to some spectacular scenery and idyllic camping experiences.

V12: Traveling in Tandem

After over four years of living full-time in an SUV, I purchase a 2021 Winnebago Revel to share with my lovely girlfriend, Shannon. Together, we pursue a mobile living, and continue exploring, now in two vehicles: the Revel serving as a basecamp, and the Jeep serving as a high-mobility scout. This series about adapting to change, as an established resident of nowhere. The adventure in 2021 kicks off in Arizona, and throughout the weeks ahead, we bounce around the American southwest, exploring remote destinations in both the van and the Jeep. This series features modifications to the Revel, and Overland Expo Mountain West. While this series introduces new characters in the story of venture4wd, the premise stays the same: full-time mobile living, travel, and adventure!

V11: The Winds of Change

As 2020 draws to a close, this series commences in spectacular Moab, Utah, and then I make my way east for the holidays, and reflect upon four years of full-time adventure and mobile-living in the Jeep. A lot happened in 2020, including a new relationship, and the winds of change are blowing!

V10: Mountains on my Mind

With the mandatory Covid-19 lockdown over, I was chomping at the bit to venture north into the mountains, so in 2020, I left Arizona to travel north with my eyes on the higher elevations of the Rocky Mountain chain. This series features some of the most grand scenery as I explore secluded mountain roads and alpine lakes. Things get sketchy as I make a bad call and travel up a gnarly mountain road at the onset of a snowstorm, stranding me overnight and requiring a technical self-extraction.

V9: Conquering the Lockdown

For two months in 2020, I traveled nowhere. I stayed at a friend’s house in Phoenix, Arizona, and I didn’t even drive far enough to need to stop a gas station within that time. I spent the time keeping an eye on the news, and keeping in touch with family back in Pennsylvania in the wake of Covid-19. Toilet paper was scarce, so I used this time to talk about equipment, processes, and previous adventures. In this series, I make the most of an uncertain time in 2020, and cover topics instead of travels.

V8: Then 2020 Happened

The year started off strong, first in OK4WD’s Toyota Tacoma in North Carolina, and then my Jeep gets a unique new modification before I travel west into Arizona, and southeastern California. I hit the road after the holiday with renewed vigor, exploring lesser known destinations in the desert southwest, and attending the American Adventurist Desert Rendezvous. Then, the news started talking about the coronavirus…

V7: The Newfoundland and Labrador Loop

In 2019, my most grand adventure so far! This series covers a massive loop, as I travel in my Jeep from the mid-Atlantic US, up into New England, through New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, into Newfoundland, across Labrador, into Quebec, Ontario, down into Michigan, and back to Pennylvania. This journey took the latter half of 2019, and features the spectacular Canadian maritimes, gorgeous natural scenery, vibrant cultures, and trials and tribulations along the way, including an unfortunate accident in the Jeep that tests my resolve.

V6: Setting the Plan in Motion

This series commences in Oregon, in early 2019, and as spring progresses, I travel south and then east in my Jeep, exploring the wild west, vast deserts, and then I spend a month zig-zagging across Texas. As temperatures thaw, I make my way to the Appalachian Mountains, where I travel north to New Jersey and conclude the series with some much needed Jeep upgrades at OK4WD, in preparation for the grand plan.

V5: Wear and Tear

At the end of 2018, and a full year of traveling and living in the Jeep, fatigue sets in, the Jeep gives me trouble, and I begin to despair. The series commences in Arizona, where I explore vast desert landscapes, and then concludes in California, at which point I commence my holiday break to rest and recharge for the next chapter.

V4: British Columbia to the Inside Passage

You’re in the Pacific Northwest, you have a full tank of gas and nowhere to be. Where do you go, when you can go anywhere? Up to Alaska, of course! In this series, I travel up through British Columbia, Canada, and make my way down through Alaska’s inside passage via ferry, and return to the states via the Canadian Rockies, making my way all the way down to Arizona just in time for the cold season!

V3: Hitting My Stride

In this series, I spend a lot of time traveling with a friend, and really start to dig my heels into life on the road. We kick things off in the eastern United States, and make our way west as the year progresses, attending Overland Expo, and making new friends, and experiencing exciting and beautiful new places across the country. I also test drive OK4WD’s Toyota Tacoma equipped with an Alu-Cab Khaya Camper for an interesting change of scenery!

V2: Going All In

I had a taste of full-time mobile living for several months in my Jeep, so now I’m at a crossroad. Do I settle down in Pennsylvania, or do I get rid of my apartment, put all of my belongings in storage, and resume a life of adventure? In this series, I opt for the latter. I don’t know how this is going to play out. All I know is, I don’t need four walls and a roof to be happy!

V1: The Adventure Begins (2017)

Ever have the urge to take a chance, and thrust yourself headlong into adventure, with no plan, no itinerary, and no set return date? This is what I did, starting in March of 2017. I set off across the country in my camper-equipped Jeep Wrangler in search of adventure and new experiences, and this playlist is my video journal.
